Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
This is the first book devoted to the actor who has created a judicious blend of high-definition performances on the British stage and a wide range of award-winning television and film roles. New York Times writer Mel Gussow interviewed Gambon on many occasions, and those conversations comprise the majority of this book. Gussow also draws insights from some of the people who have worked with Gambon. Gambon was named the successor to the late Richard Harris as Professor Dumbledore in the Harry Potter films, making his debut in 2004's Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, and he will be featured more prominently in the June 2005 film Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. He can also be seen in Mike Nichols' Emmy Award-winning HBO film of Tony Kushner's Angels in America and a growing number of films, including the recent Being Julia with Annette Bening, Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow, and Wes Anderson's The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou with Bill Murray.

Customer Reviews:
5 out of 5 stars my favorite actor speaks   September 23, 2005

The late Mel Gussow spent an enormous amount of time getting to know the great Michael Gambon, and the result is a fascinating, thrilling book of interviews with a fascinating actor who speaks his mind about his work and the craft of acting. If you are looking for titilating details about this actor's personal life, this is not the book for you, as he is intensely private on that front. But if your interest in him is his career primarily on the stage, this book will fulfill your every expectation as he speaks deliciously about life in the theatre. My only regret is that the book ended much much too soon.

2 out of 5 stars Parking space   August 14, 2010
Anon
One would expect all kinds of insights regarding acting from someone as accomplished as Gambon. Regrettably, most of this book deals with trivia and gossip relating to Gambon's hobby (gun collecting and restoration) as well as the import he places on having a parking space near the theatre in which he performs. As for acting, it is, for him, basically a form of showing off (the claim is repeated at least three times). Sometimes personal anacdotes disclose much about the person and the deeper dimensions of their world. This is not the case here.
